Thai Massage

Heated Studio. Heated Mat. Fully Clothed.

Through gentle pressing and stretching, this amazing massage modality reduces muscle and joint pain, gives a pleasant sense of well-being, and improves the overall health of everyone who experiences it. As with other forms of massage, the main reason people get Thai Massage is for relaxation and relief of musculoskeletal pain. Touch being a basic need of humans, Thai Massage can provide a nutritive benefit.

Why a mat? Why fully-clothed?

Gentle movement therapy is a key component of Thai Massage, and is difficult to do with the height of a massage table and the sometimes complicated drapings that go along with it. Leverage is greatly improved with floor work; the therapist can get his or her entire body weight into a technique instead of having to rely on muscular effort. A Thai Massage client should wear comfortable clothing, as some movement is part of the therapy. In this society, it is the general feeling that nudity is taboo. Even when we consciously acknowledge some of our fears about being unclothed around a stranger, that doesn't make them go away. Thai Massage is performed fully clothed on a floor mat, and in that way can be more comfortable to some. Falling and losing balance are also reduced.

The Pilates tie-in.

Thai Massage is a great complement to Classic Pilates. The stretching and strengthening component inherent in Pilates is addressed in Thai Massage as well. Additionally, since Thai Massage is performed in the "2 person" style, it is beneficial to the therapist as well as the recipient. In some ways, ALL massage is "teaching relaxation." Thai Massage philosophy encourages the therapist to consciously relax at all times and during all techniques, thereby teaching the recipient by example.

To sum up, Thai Massage is uniquely suited to helping someone "get the feel of" relaxation. Along with a regular Pilates exercise plan, Thai Massage can maximize the range of motion and well-being of your body.
