About Lee

Lee Sowada recently moved to Portland after having graduated from Colorado State University where she received two BA degrees: one in Dance the other in Speech Communication.

These fields naturally led her to the teachings of Joseph Pilates and a developed interest in coordination, strength and flexibility. She studied the Classical Pilates Method in Fort Collins, which led to certification.

In addition, Lee’s fascination with body mechanics has led her to pursue Physical Therapy. She currently works in a clinic and plans to earn a doctorate in Physical Therapy in the near future.

Lee’s strong knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology combine with her love for movement, fitness and overall health to create a successful Pilates session.

Lee has been working with Adrienne since the fall of 2007, and has plans to develop a comprehensive mat program in 2008, along with teaching private and semi-private sessions.

Lee’s Philosophy

I have always been interested fitness and health. I played tennis competitively for years and have been pursuing Dance—ballet, modern and jazz—for 18 years. When I started taking Pilates classes I watched my body change before my eyes. Even serious ballet training had not given me the kind of control, strength and flexibility that the Classical Pilates Method could.

This fitness system facilitates uniform body development, the correction of posture issues and the restoration of energy. Finding my powerhouse or core muscles of the abdominals and gluteus, has alleviated pain and truly allowed me to understand what my body is capable of. I, without a doubt, will be doing Pilates for the rest of my life and sharing it with as many people as I can.
